BOARD ROLES

The Board consists of a minimum of eight members elected or appointed in line with the BPA Constitution. It provides overall direction and oversight of BPA, represents and advocates for the interests of local businesses, oversees financial performance, and supports membership growth and engagement.

Chairperson

The Chairperson is the principal leader of Business Port Augusta (BPA). They are responsible for ensuring the effective governance, fostering collaboration among members, and providing strategic guidance to promote the interests of local businesses. The Chairperson acts as BPA’s primary spokesperson, representing the organisation in dealings with government, industry, small business and the wider community. They are also the main advocate for local business, working to strengthen the economic and social wellbeing of the region.

Deputy Chairperson

The Deputy Chair supports the Chairperson, acts in their absence, and at times undertakes specific delegated responsibilities.

Treasurer

The Treasurer overseas BPA’s financial management and reporting, working with board, staff and Accountant to ensure financial sustainability. The Treasurer presents financial updates at Board meetings and the AGM.

Secretary

The secretary manages BPA’s records, minutes and correspondence, ensuring compliance with statutory and constitutional obligations. It is vital that the Secretary supports effective communication within the Board

Board Member

Board Members support the executive roles and contribute to BPA’s governance, planning and decision-making.

Subcommittees and Working Groups

Business Port Augusta establishes subcommittees or working groups for specific focus areas such as events, advocacy or reporting. These groups operate under a Terms of Reference approved by the Board, provide regular updates to the Board, and meet only as required.


BOARD MEETINGS

Held monthly, or as required. A quorum (half of board members) is needed for decisions. Agendas and papers are circulated before each meeting. Decisions are made collectively, and all members share responsibility.
