Chew the Fat Lunch

Oops! Time has got away from me! Late notice, but well  worth putting in your diary - the next Chew the Fat Loooong Lunch is planned for next Thursday 14th September 12.30pm at Arid Lands. 

This time we are going to open the lunch to you - bring your business questions or queries - hear how other businesses deal with the things that you might be finding more difficult. 

These lunches are a great way to network and to meet others doing pretty much the same as you!

Premier Weatherill officially launched JOBEX earlier this afternoon, and things are taking shape with nearly 80 of SA’s leading businesses already confirmed as exhibiting.

Official launch and media

Now that the Premier has officially launched the event, the first phase of the JOBEX website is live - feel free to go and have a look atwww.jobex.sa.gov.au.

We will be continuing to update and refine this site, so please share with us your views and ideas. At this time, we expect that the ‘regional’ event information will be made live on or before Friday 22nd September, so we do appreciate you working your business contacts to get an many organisations signed up prior to next week’s closing date for Exhibitor EoIs.

Today also marks the launch of the statewide media campaign to promote the events, which will include TV, radio, online, social, print, and outdoor...I’m advised by our Comms team that they expect the JOBEX Ad will reach an estimated 800,000 South Australians before the end of this weekend alone.

As we discussed during our regional visits over the past couple of weeks, we would appreciate you promoting JOBEX in your communities and through any media channels available to you. If you have ideas and require any content or digital/graphic assets from us, please don’t hesitate to ask.

 Also, a reminder that if you’re aware of new developments or interesting projects in your regions that are generating jobs, or personal case studies of people re-training or transitioning into new areas of employment  – please let us know as we’re regularly being asked for ideas for new media articles etc.

Exhibiting businesses
We’re excited to share that we already have a pretty impressive list of exhibitors such as Santos, BHP, OZ Minerals, Fleet Space Technologies, Nyrstar, Tesla, SAHMRI, Neoen, Mighty Kingdom Gaming, Viterra, Thomas Foods and Costa Group, with a good number of these organisations also nominating to participate in the regional JOBEX events. The full list (as at 06/09) is available on the website.

As discussed during our meetings with you, we would greatly appreciate your support to follow up with the businesses within your local and regional networks and encourage them to register their interest at www.sa.gov.au/jobex. Please note registration close next Friday 15 September.

Indigenous Entrepreneurs Fund (IEF)

The IEF is intended to support Indigenous owned businesses which are based in regional or remote locations.

The IEF can offer two types of support:

  • A business advisory service,  targeting start-up and expanding Indigenous owned businesses based in regional and remote locations.
  • Grants for plant & equipment – one off grants, prioritising business plant and equipment, where commercial finance isn’t available

A small number of independent business advisors have been engaged to provide expert assistance, including one for South Australia

TAFESA Port Augusta Open Day   -   6 September 2017

You are invited

 The Port Augusta TAFESA Regional Manager Robin O’Dea would like to invite you to attend our campus Open Day.
 An informal BBQ lunch will be supplied starting at 12:00pm, where you can interact and associate with our staff and other invited guests, this will be followed by a guided campus tour. 
Robin invites you to take time to participate in the campus tour where each of our Business Units will be showcasing their nationally accredited courses either by active workshops, classes in progress or static displays.  
 
The BBQ Lunch will be held in the courtyard adjacent to the staffroom.
(On arrival please ask at the reception area for directions).
 
Please reply no later than Thursday 31st August if you are attending the BBQ Lunch.

Chewing the fat – networking the Pt Augusta way!

Last month, Mayor Sam Johnson called for businesses to come together over a relaxed networking lunch, to not only hear some fantastic good news stories of development within Port Augusta and the region, but also to voice their challenges as a business.

The long lunch was a fantastic success with many businesses indicating they want to continue with this style of networking event. The next lunch is planned for 17th August 12.30pm at Arid Lands.

Kriston Thompson, Regional Manager, Skills and Development, will be facilitating a short workshop in order to gain a deeper awareness of the industry training and individual needs for skills and jobs in this area. This special ‘think tank event has been ‘birthed’ out of 13 business people in the Port Augusta region who have meeting together as a group for over a year. Together with Business Port Augusta we are asking you and your business to participate and contribute your thoughts and ideas.

The focus will be ‘enhancing, defining and planning our future”. This first event of its kind will be where we are inviting every business in the Port Augusta region to come together and collaborate as a team, and seek to capitalise on ideas, insights and possibilities......so that this community can ‘own’ its future.  It is not political, neither is it a ‘moan, groan or blame’ session. Ideas ...good ideas create opportunity, and money, employment and prosperity follow naturally. There is always money available for a good idea or a new opportunity that has promise.

Future Jobs Fund – Regional info sessions

The $200 million Future Jobs Fund, established in the State Budget, will offer grants and loans to expand and create jobs in growing sectors. more
Future Jobs Fund – Regional info sessions

Applications are now being sought to help create ongoing jobs in the following sectors:

  • Shipbuilding and defence
  • Renewable energy and mining
  • Tourism, food and wine
  • Health and biomedical research, including businesses expanding to provide National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) services
  • IT and advanced manufacturing.

There will be one round of funding. Grants from $100,000 to $5 million, and low interest loans from $100,000 to $10 million are available to create ongoing jobs. Applications close Friday 29 September.
